The Colour Palette
For the colour palette, The Blackthorn uses a deep oxford blue background, which is livened with bejewelled tones from nature for the motif. The immersive pattern appears to have been picked straight from nature and is ideal for working into modern traditional interiors.
The Pattern History
Heritage group Morris & Co, nurtured by influential Arts & Crafts pioneer William Morris, uphold the same values today, that its founding father in the nineteenth century was driven by. That is to live alongside considered, crafted objects, to see beauty in simplicity and to be inspired by nature. The Blackthorn motif was designed for wallpaper by J.H. Dearle in 1892 and was first adapted for machine printed fabric in 1975 by Sanderson.
